Gold discovered in the 1850’s brought miners to Nevada County. They found not
only gold, but clean air, beautiful rivers, tall pines, and green valleys.
Elevations vary from 1,000 feet to 5,000 feet providing Nevada County with
terrains of rolling foothills to rugged mountains. The lower elevations have
warm dry summers with a rainy season from November to April and an occasional
snowfall. The higher elevations have an average annual snow pack of 6 to 10
feet. The largest population centers are Grass Valley 12,000, Nevada City 2,900,
and Truckee with 12,900.
